BETTINA VON ZWEHL: ALBUM 31 BY BETTINA VON ZWEHL AND SOPHY RICKETT, LIBRARY OF BIRMINGHAM. 3 APRIL - 30 JUNE 2014

ALBUM 31 is a collaborative project by artists Sophy Rickett and Bettina von Zwehl commissioned by GRAIN at the Library of Birmingham. The first outcome, which is made up of 10 Album Pages, is exhibited on the third floor of the Library of Birmingham.

The original starting point for the project was the Sir Benjamin Stone Collection, an extensive archive of albums and boxes of loose images collected by the Victorian photographer, and held by the Library of Birmingham.
One of the albums, Album 31 is labelled ‘miscellaneous and contains the images Stone wanted to keep, but that didn’t ‘fit’ into any of the other albums.

Exhibition on view from 3 April - 30 June 2014 at Library of Birmingham.
GRAIN and Birmingham City University will welcome Sophy Rickett and Bettina von Zwehl to give an Artists Talk on Wednesday 21st May, 6-8pm at The School of Art, Margaret Street, Birmingham Institute of Art & Design, Birmingham City University.

OLA KOLEHMAINEN: GEOMETRIC LIGHT; PHOTOGRAPHY AND ARCHITECTURE. 5 MARCH - 17 MAY 2014

Finnish artist Ola Kolehmainen traces the great architects in his photographic works; not only the monuments of European Modernism designed by Alvar Aalto, Mies van der Rohe, Frank Gehry and Sauerbruch Hutton, but also buildings and monuments from the 16th century onwards.

For the exhibition at Haus am Waldsee, architects Matthias Sauerbruch and Louisa Hutton created a colour concept to accompany Ola Kolehmainen's first solo show at a Berlin art institution. Following from this exhibition, the work will travel to PM in London during summer 2014.

A catalogue will be published in German and English by Walther König.

Exhibition on view from 5 March until 17 May 2014, at Haus am Waldsee, International Kunst in Berlin, Argentinische Allee 30, 14163 Berlin.

BETTINA VON ZWEHL: RUBY'S ROOM: PHOTOGRAPHIC MINIATURES BY BETTINA VON ZWEHL. 21 FEBRUARY - 26 MAY 2014, THE BARBER INSTITUTE OF FINE ARTS, BIRMINGHAM

Ruby’s Room - previously seen at the Holborne Museum, Bath - is von Zwehl's response to the early 19th century fashion for miniature paintings of a single eye of a family member. This exhibition is an exploration of her own family connections; the subjects are herself and her young daughter, Ruby, and also features eye portraits of both her husband and daughter each mounted into jewellery by designer Laura Lee.
