Kathrin Linkersdorff: Microverse opens at Stadthaus Ulm.
Linkersdorff’s large-format photographs move between art and science. In her botanical-microbiological experiments, she initiates disintegration processes that reveal the hidden structures of plants. Her work draws on the Japanese concept of Wabi Sabi, finding beauty in impermanence and imperfection.
The exhibition focuses on her most recent series Microverse, developed in collaboration with microbiologist Prof. Regine Hengge, where discoloured plant parts serve as growth media for bacteria that form vivid colonies; as well as her ongoing series Fairies, in which dried tulips are immersed in water, the final photograph taken with their extracted pigments drifting around the delicate remains.
