Santeri Tuori, SKY Series at Chaumont-Photo-sur-Loire

23 November 2025 - 22 February 2026

Santeri Tuori’s SKY Series is presented at Chaumont-Photo-sur-Loire, where the Centre for Arts and Nature devotes all its winter exhibitions to photography and to leading artists who choose patience, attention, and detours. Here, nature is not simply a subject but a partner; the photographers do not merely illustrate but reveal, suggest, and sometimes disrupt. Each photographer enters into a dialogue with the château’s spaces, creating an experience where image becomes presence.

The exhibition, shown in the Main Reception Hall and the Porcupine Room, brings together Tuori’s Sky series, begun in 2010 on the island of Kökar in Finland’s Åland archipelago. A member of the Helsinki School, Tuori composes images of the sky in successive strata, layering colour with black and white. The sky becomes a space of slow transformation; deprived of familiar reference points, the gaze slows, hesitates, and moves through these almost pictorial compositions, eliciting a peaceful, attentive contemplation.

Tuori’s meticulous layering of photographs taken over time reveals the sky as an ever-changing force—an archive of time and light. Billowing clouds, shifting forms, and contrasts of light and shadow evoke both the sublime and the fragility of the natural world, echoing the emotional depth found in the landscapes of Turner and Friedrich. His images speak to perception, memory, and the environmental urgencies of our era, reminding us of what is at stake as the climate undergoes rapid change. Through these layered skies, Tuori creates a space for reflection, inviting viewers to reconnect with nature’s power, beauty, and vulnerability.
