If Emmett Till Lived: Freedom on American Ground

Diana Matar’s My America is included in If Emmett Till Lived: Freedom on American Ground, a thoughtful exhibition at the Museum of Contemporary Photography in Chicago.
Emmett Till was fourteen years old when he travelled from Chicago to Mississippi in 1955 to visit family. During that visit, he became the victim of racial violence. Organized by Sarah Elizabeth Lewis in collaboration with Reverend Wheeler Parker Jr., Till’s cousin and best friend, the exhibition brings together photographs by more than 110 artists from the museum’s permanent collection to imagine the life he might have lived had he returned home to Chicago.
The exhibition is accompanied by If Emmett Till Lived: A Creative Monument, edited by Sarah Elizabeth Lewis and published by the Museum of Contemporary Photography and DelMonico Books.
